Not able to obtain a license over IPV6 (DirectAccess IPV6)

Anonymous

Hello,

I have a fully functional IPV4 environment within the office, absolutely no problem with licensing whatsoever. However, my external VPN clients who are DirectAccess IPV6 connection is unable to obtain a license.

  • I have full bi-directional access between IPV6 clients and licensing server. (Ping, SMB, RDP etc)
  • When I access http://servername:27000 or http://servername:2080 from the client I get  Wê-60Wê-60Wê-60
  • I am on the latest NLM 11.13.1.2
  • Licensing file points to DNS name, not the IPV4 address

Can anybody tell me how I can get this to work? Thank you

Hello gwang and welcome to the Autodesk community!

It looks like you are unable to obtain a license from the server. The following article(s) should help you resolve the problem:

Check your Environment variable and set if not already there...

Name: ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE

Value: @<servername>; @<server ipv4 address>

This should be created within System Variables.

It will try resolving the host name first, if not use the IP Address.

Hi Darin, my DirectAccess client are on IPV6 network, you still want me to enter IPV4 address into system variables?

We have this exact same problem and have tried everything barring getting hold of someone at Autodesk who can explain.

You can set Env Variable to FNP_IP_PRIORITY to 6 and it will look for an IPV6 License but then when back in the office will not fail over to look for an IPv4 address.

I have spoken to Flexnet and they have said that it should fail over as soon as it doesn't find the License using the alternate networking protocol and if it isn't Autodesk must have changed something and we need to get hold of them.

Have you made any progress?

Did you install the latest version of the license manager (11.13.1.2)? If so, you shouldn't have an issue.

In my opinion, IPv6 is used for external communication (due to limited IPv4 addresses), and IPv4 is still the norm for most internal networks. That being the case, we tend to recommend IPv4.

You said "but when back in the office", does that mean you're VPN is exclusively using IPv6 or a mixture?

@TravisNave can you weight in on the subject matter and offer any alternative solutions?

We are using the latest release of the Autodesk License Manager.

Our local LAN uses IPv4. DirectAccess is like a VPN but is not exactly. It uses IPv6 only. In theory though according to Flexnet document it should fail over between the two. It should look for a v4 and if it doesn't find it should start to look for a v6 and vice versa. This is what Flexnet have told me direct. I have tried extending the TIMEOUTs. Making changes in Hosts file will break the IPv6 from working as well so we can't do that. They are essentially telling me if that does not work Autodesk must have changed something in the Licensing mechanism that is stopping this from working.

Hey csmdj,

are you say you are able to get DirectAccess to work by setting client's env variable FNP_IP_PRIORITY = 6? We were told to do that on licensing servers, but that didn't work.

Yes, I think as well we might have a fix now for this.

In System Environmental Variables set FNP_IP_PRIORITY=6 on client PC. Not touching Server. It will pick up a License when operating over DirectAccess. back in the office it will not then pick up a License over IPv4 but...

Combining this Variable with another (as instructed by Autodesk Support) of FNP_IP_ENV=1 seems to have fixed it. I am sitting here now and able to get a License both on the LAN and over ADSL (using DirectAccess).

I am getting the odd occasion when the Application doesn't open up at all but a reboot seems to fix that and I think that may be an issue with our environment causing that. Be interested in hearing from anyone else who tests this and their experience too. I have set up a couple of Users here to test tonight.

Glad you have a work-around.  Contrary to all Autodesk KB articles and support, their support of the license manager has never really worked well for IPv6.  My other suggestion would be to use the 11.7 version of adskflex.exe to see if that helped with the connectivity problem.

Hi csmdj,

Unfortunately, your solution didn't work for us, did you have to tweak any port settings for DirectAccess?

Tried your fix as suggested and it worked! The only addition was increasing the timeout to 2000000 just in case of any latency issues.  Thanks!

Hello @Anonymous,

Thank you for posting. Smiley Happy Sorry to hear this issue has persisted.

Please verify connectivity to the server from the client computers as described below:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Using-Internet-Explorer-to-check-if-the-ports-used-for-licensing-are-open.html

If you have a firewall between the license server(s) and computer, you need to open some TCP/IP ports on the server for license-related communication. Open port 2080 for adskflex, and open ports 27000 through 27009 for lmgrd.

Let me know if the above steps helped you to resolve the issue.

Still no support for licenses over direct access?
Just to be clear to everyone else, none of the above works.
