Maya 2016 direct connect broken

I am a student and I 3d print for my robotics club.  I use maya to help export a lot of the .dae (COLLADA) files that my teammates make into .stl files.  I can no longer export to STL for some reason.  I am on Windows 8.1 enterprise.

Is the fbxmaya plug-in enabled in your plug-in manager? (That will enable the dae export.) For STL, it's the Directconnect plugin.
