Manage Users

Need to solve the products assign issue that started with the new user manager.

In the past, account managers could assign any product from any contract to a specific user.

Today, the system decide itself how to assigned the product to the user.

For example:

If the customer have 2 different contracts, with 1 license of AutoCAD in each contract, and we would like to assign the product from contract A to user B, we'll not be able to do that.

The system have some kind of default preference to assign automatically the product from contract A to user A and contract B to user B.

If we want to swap, it will be impossible.

Please change the system back to how it was before until this issue will be solved.

Thank you!

@royperry

This is a user base forum..  We have no ability to change it back..

It is not impossible to switch..   When a product is purchased it is automatically assigned to a the person who has the contract manager  or primary admin role.   Depending on where your purchased or how it done you may be managing users through the classic user management or the new one.

Let me know if you want more info on this..

Hi Mark,

Thank you for your kind reply.

Well, if you're familiar with new contracts, you'll know that there is NO CLASIC USER MANAGMENT!

I already opened a case and I've been told that the system choose automatically the contract that will be used to assign a product to a user from.

That's why I ask here to find a solution to this system bug or system disability to be able to control the products/contracts/users.

I hope someone from Autodesk will see the problems and will take off the gloves...

Good day!

I agree this is problematic if your contracts have different end dates!

Technically, you could do that by separating the two contracts i.e. moving one of the contracts to a different Contract Manager.  You could get your IT to generate generic email addresses for e.g. LicenseAdmin1, LicenseAdmin2 and split the contracts between them. Then when you assign a license from one of these accounts you know exactly which one is which (because there is only 1 per admin account).

I'm not saying it's a solution and I know it would generate additional hassle and split control over your licenses etc. but it is a potential workaround for your issue.

It's possible, but better to create a 3rd user that will hold the first product from the firs contract, and then to assigns the second, then to "unassign" the products from the 3rd user and to assign to the other user.

Means that we can create a temporary user to hold the default first product.

I'm not sure we are talking about tackling the same issue then. I thought the reason behind wanting to separate the licenses was that they have a different expiry date, so that if you knew you had a temp working only for a few months you could assign them the license expiring first and then not have to worry about reshuffling in case the system randomly assigned the "wrong" license.

E.g. you have 2 x contracts, one is a brand new purchase of 1 x AEC Collections expiring 28/08/19, one is 5 x AEC switched from maintenance expiring on 16/02/20. If you pool the 5 under a separate Contract Manager there is no risk to the system randomly deciding to cut one of them off when you let the single subscription expire because of eeny meeny miny moe.

But I don't know what licenses you have so perhaps we were thinking of two different things.

Hi Pola,

Actually we are talking about the same thing.

In case of 2-5 users you can hold all of them with users.

Those who're using the products and dummies to "hold" the products you want to exclude.

Once all the products are assigned to different users, you can "release" a product from a dummy user and assign to a different one.

Creating additional contract manager can cause other complications.

Ah you must be talking about serial number based licenses... I assumed you meant the sign in licenses where it's impossible to tell which contract they belong to.

No s/n. I'm also talking about sign in licenses.

OK I'm lost. What is the end goal? What's the reason you want to control whether User X is using Autocad from contract A or contract B? How is creating dummy users and assigning them temporary access to licenses helpful if you cannot establish which contracts they are assigned to?
