Licensing

Hi guys, I need a little help here to understand the licensing process of Vault Pro, in other times I install several Vault Clients, or in all my networks, and I have a license file with for example 10 assets, if I install in more than 10 devices, I can use only if there some license is available in the license server, even if I working into Inventor and Autocad at the same time, I will use only one asset (I just believe in this, I actually never look at the license server to be sure about that, so sorry if I'm wrong)

Single User: for device (pc), if I have only 10 assets, I can't install in more than 10 devices, even if I have a license server, and doesn't work if I have 2 or more windows users in the same machine?

Multi User: only if I have 2 or more windows users in the same device, like working in different turns, and if I have a license server with 10 assets I can install in more than 10 devices, I will use only if I have an asset free in the license server?

And about ThinClient (only for visualization), I still can use without consuming license?

I need to install in more than assets number I have, what kind a license type I need to have now?

Thanks a lot guys, but this is a little bit confuse today.

First thin client doesn't consume any license and it should be used for those Vault users who just need to print and view documents.

Single User Subscription license:  No matter the quantity, the product can be installed on "X" number of machines.  Single user subscription gets its activation from the named account its assigned to.  So even if you have 10 single user subscription license, you could install the software on 30 machines if you wanted too.  But just remember, a given named account can only be used once to authorize the use of the product at any given time.  Meaning its not allowed for a user to sign onto one machine and go to another machine and authorize single user subscription license on that machine.

Multi-User Subscription license:  No matter the quantity, the product can be installed on "X" number of machines.  However its first come, first server until all your license is used up.  However if the Vault (multi-user) client license is grab for one machine, if the same user launches the Vault add-in for AutoCAD and/or Inventor, the user still consumes one license.  If you're using the machine as a job server (for Vault), there's been cases where the job server process (in the background) consumes another Vault license for the same machine where the user is already using Vault client, so beware of that and you may have to reserve license via an option file.

Hello @Anonymous,

Welcome back.

The sort of set up you describe does not fall in line with the named user terms, please be sure to review the usage terms. Please review Rules for assigning named users on Desktop Subscription.

License Types for Vault

Vault offers two types of licenses: single-user and multi-user.

  • Single-User Subscription license–A single-user subscription license is a stand-alone, or device, license that is tied to the machine on which the Vault applications run.

The single-user subscription license is available with Vault Workgroup and Vault Professional.

Important: Activate your single-user (device) subscription license prior to running any Vault applications.
  • Multi-User Subscription License-A multi-user subscription license is a network license that is tied to the Windows account used to run the Vault applications. Only one license is pulled if the applications which require a license are launched from the same machine with the same windows account.

The multi-user subscription license is available with Vault Workgroup, Vault Professional, and Vault Office.

You can't have more then 10 named users signing in

Multi User: only if I have 2 or more windows users in the same device, like working in different turns, and if I have a license server with 10 assets I can install in more than 10 devices, I will use only if I have an asset free in the license server?

10 seats = 10 asset/named users only
