Inventor 2021 Reinstall with errors 1402 and 1712

Because of being unable to install the latest Inventor 2021.1.2_Update I tried an uninstall of Inventor 2021. After several attempts it could be done.

Then I noticed irregular behavior of Windows 10 Taskbar. Windows system restore solved it, but after that installing the update failed again. I've tried to get control about the key in the message, but no success.

What can be done? Setup.log is attached, one of them shows the success.

Hello @WHolzwarth

The error 1402 is usually associated with restricted permissions on your Windows system.

The software needs Administrator rights during installation & at first launch after installation. Also, set up the application to run as Administrator. Users must have Full Control permissions you will read/write to the folder locations accessed during the installation. You may need to contact your IT department to make sure you have the proper permissions to install successfully.

Please review the following articles:

Thanks for a first advice, Natasha.

I think, I've tried all of the attempts, mentioned by you.

Are there any new hints after looking at the setup log?

Hello Wolfgang,

can you please check if this two keys exists:

reg query HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Features\195DD4F746521000000017707DF0D34B

reg query HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Features\195DD4F746521000011317707DF0D34B

if not, as with ADR create. If they exists, can you check the permissions on the keys:

Hi Markus,

once more thanks for your assistance.

Both keys didn't exist, but were added now with the needed permissions.

Sad to see, that running setup as administrator stopped with the same error message as before.

How can you know, which key is possibly missing? Similar as the both keys mentioned above?

Cheers

Walter

Good Morning Wolfgang,

sorry for the delay.

Normally these keys (and a few others) are created during the install of Inventor 2021 without any service pack.

So let me check what happens if they do not exists as for your case. And we should check if is something wrong with your registry permissions.

I will do this in the evening and inform you tomorrow.

regards

Markus

Thanks Markus,

the problem still is not solved, but is discussed too in Inventor Beta forum. Because of NDA I can't tell more.

Autodesk Community Team just asked, if the problem is solved.

After not only a few attempts, the stubborn key entry still is blocking a successful re-install.

Microsoft's Fixit tool could not help, either.

It's solved now. Here's more info.
In the meantime I've had two sessions with Autodesk support, each about 90 minutes. The registry has been checked, and some other attempts were made.
No solution after all, besides an advice for buying a new PC. I must admit, that it's been bought in 2011; it's time for thinking about that.
But in the second session, the support person made a comment, that it's been a big step from Windows 10 1903 to 2004. It's correct, but these Windows updates are coming in here without any notice before. Perhaps someone knows how to get more control about that.
Problems began after 2004 update, and I switched back to 1903. Some issues were solved, but not all Autodesk updates could be applied. Trying Inventor Reset Utility, repairing and uninstalling made it still worse, and ended in no more success of re-installing. I've made many attempts for permissions to the faulty key in Inventor setup, but nothing helped. A similar experience showed up with Revit 2021.
Yesterday after the second support session, I began thinking about the step from 1903 to 2004. The intermediate version 1909 was not really easy to find, but I got a download in the end from here:
https://www.heise.de/download/product/creators-update-windows-10-update-assistent/download
Several hours later and after a long delay at 27% of install Windows 10 1909 was on my PC. Inventor 2021 and Revit 2021 could be installed back, together with all updates.
Final thanks to Rainer Hotter (Autodesk Global Support at Munich) for the "big step" hint .
