I can not reinstall Maya 2016 (student version)

I've tried to reinstall Maya 2016 cause it gave me problems and data loss when saving a project,
I am using Windows 64bit and when I remove completely every trace of the Autodesk product in the control panel and the Programs folder, then I try to re-download and install it from the website (http://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/maya) it says to me that maya is already installed and i can not install it.
I've been deleting every trace also on the register-editor, but the problem is still there.

anyone knows how to help a desperate student? Smiley Sad

cheers

Thank you for the swift reply,
I've followed everything on the links but the problem still occur.

I've also already tried to download the version from the VIrtual Agent and inserted manually the key and the serial, but still show this problem

If you have WIn 7 or 8/8.1 run the microsoft fixit and remove any trueview 2016 left over info.  With Microsoft fixit you have to repeat the process for each item you need to remove.

If you have Win 10 run IOBIT Uninstaller tool.  I've never used this product so I'm not sure of the workflow/steps.  In addition I have heard to use the POWERFUL SCAN option and it may not clean up everything.

Then use the extracted files that you downloaded for the Virtual Agent.
