each new user must enter serial number and product code

I installed autocad 2017, multi seat stand alone, on my student computers as an administrator. The shortcut is in the public folder. I started autocad as the admin and entered the serial number and product code on each machine as the admin. I have done this the same way for 10 years or so. There have been a few changes but I have been able to make it work. Last year it worked great and I went through the same process this year. When my students started 2017 today they were ask for a serial number and product code. Will I need to enter a serial number and product code for each student? If so when a student needs to move to a different computer will I need to enter the serial number and product code on the different computer? I run deep freeze on my computers, it is a hard drive restoration product. I have been running it for over 10 years and have not had a problem. Deep freeze allows the user to save but when the machine is restarted all of the saved data is lost. I have over 150 students in my classes and this is occurring on all installed 2017 products, AutoCAD, Inventor Pro, and Revit.

Please help me figure it out.

Thanks

Hello fanderson

It looks like you want to transfer AutoCAD to a new computer. The following article(s) should help you resolve the problem:

@fanderson

For the 2017 product line there is a folder and files created in the C:\Programdata\Autodesk\CLM\LGS folder that controls the Lets Get Started dialog  when the application is started.  If you are restoring that location upon reboot then that will cause the LGS dialog to appear each and every time.

It's been awhile since I've seen someone use deepfreeze... Anyway, you'll need to thaw deepfreeze, then walk around to all of the machines in the class to enter the serial number and activate the software. Once completed, un-thaw deepfreeze, then you'll be all set.

In regards to your question about if users switch machines will they need to enter the serial number again? The answer is no. It only need this to happen once on each pc.

Thanks for the input.

I have installed the software for the last few years as an network admin.
Those rights were removed from the classroom teacher.
The district I am in now uses an "installer" user with a changing password
that is used to install new software.

I was under the impression that "installer" had the same rights as an
admin. I was wrong.

I have an admin that was willing to come to my room after school and work
through the problem with me. After the admin logged in they opened 2017
entered the serial # and product code and 2017 opened up like it should.
They then closed 2017 and logged off.

I had thawed the machine before they logged in so I now froze the machine.
I logged in as a generic student and after accepting the policies and
clicking OK, 2017 opened up correctly.

The problem was the rights of the "installer" and the admin rights.

About Deep Freeze. If you maintain deep freeze it is a great tool for a
computer lab. If a virus ever shows up i just restart the machine and the
virus is gone. If a student changes setting on the machine then the machine
can be set back to default easily.

In 15 years of using deep freeze i have had less than 15 problems that
could not be fixed by simply restarting the machine. Most of those were
hardware issues.

Faronics, the Deep Freeze company, is working on a cloud version at this
time. I would really not want to work in an education computer lab without
it.

Thanks again for your input.
