Chge Perpet' Serial Number to Subsc' Serial Number: NAMED USER

We just recently migrated/converted our Building Design Suites under Perpetual Maintenance to New Subscription Model (AEC Collection). All of our (Building Design Suite Premium installations) NETWORK seats found new licenses (AEC Collection) just fine without have to reinstall. But we have a few Standalone seats (Building Design Suite Premium) and it is time to get those moved over.

So... this morning I believe I have confirmed that NAMED USER(s) with access to products are correctly assigned in AUTODESK.ACCOUNT and that all users have a confirmed Autodesk Account linked to their work email address.

So, I attempted using the Serial number Update control in License Manager to simply assign the new serial number and got a note back that is was invalid. I also tried to register manually on-line and got an error that the serial number didn't match the software. Makes sense since these were Building Design Suite installations and I was using AEC Collection Serial number.

So what am I doing wrong... or am I going to be stuck with doing a re-install?

Hello mdhutchinson

It looks like you're getting an "Invalid Serial Number” message or having trouble with your product key while trying to register and activate your Autodesk software. The following article(s) should help you resolve the problem:

Click Top reasons why you may get a Serial Number Error during Activation

And check Error: "Invalid serial number" (standalone activation)

For product key information: Finding Serial Numbers & Product Keys

If you’re having an issue with your product key, please make sure that you are using the correct one for your product (especially if your product comes from a suite). Finally, you should type then numbers and letters in. We do not recommend copy/paste.

If you are still having issues activating your product, you may visit our Activation Contact Us page and submit your inquiry there.

If the perpetual license of your suites are the 2017 or 2018 version you will need to perform a license reset per these steps

Please note, folders of C:\Programdata and C:\Users\[Username]\Appdata (listed below) are hidden folders and you may need to adjust your viewing settings.

First make sure you're signed out of the desktop app and A360 (both are located in your Windows system tray

On your computer, navigate to

2017 Version: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\CLM\LGS\<Product_Key>_2017.0.0.F  [<Product Key> is the product key of the application you have]

2018 Version: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\CLM\LGS\<Product_Key>_2018.0.0.F  [<Product Key> is the product key of the application you have]

Delete the LGS.data file.
Navigate to C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ folder
Delete the ADUT folder and it's contents

When you start the application, it will prompt you to choose one (that matches your license) of the following:

Login - 30 day trial or CLIC (Cloud Based) licenses
Serial Number - Students, Standalone and Single-User Term Based activation
Network - Network License server for obtaining licenses from a machine on your network

If its pre-2017 and you are staying with that version, then you need to uninstall/reinstall
