Cannot reinstall CFD 2019, "A newer version of this product is already installed."

I use Autocad MEP 2021 daily for work (licensed through work), and I decided to try Autodesk CFD 2019, which I get for free through my university license. After the initial install of CFD 2019, the program was very buggy, and the licensing seemed to be an issue though I'm not sure. I then tried to uninstall and reinstall CFD 2019, but get the error that "A newer version of this product is already installed" (See screenshot below). After a lot of googling I found that the program registry keys might be causing the issue. I tried a complete uninstall of all Autodesk products, including deleting remaining registry keys. Autocad MEP 2021 reinstalled and runs with no issues. However, I'm still getting the same message about CFD 2019. I'll include links to the exact instructions that I followed throughout this process, any help is appreciated!

Hello @Clint.Billstrom

Thanks for posting in the forums. According to our records you don't have access to CFD product in your account. Where did you access the download for CFD 2019?

Please review the Educational Software Guide to understand more about how to access educational software & the new verification process.

I suspect you needed to install the 2021 version now: after you remove the 2019 version.
Unless there is a reason you are hung-up on the 2019 CFD version.

Hi @natasha.l,

Sorry for the confusion, I'm replying from my university account, so that you can verify I have valid access to Autodesk CFD 2019. @Clint.Billstrom is my work account through which I use Autocad MEP. Feel free to reply to either account as I'm still struggling to fix the issue.

Hi @pendean ,

The issue is a little less straightforward than that. I only have access to CFD Ultimate, versions 2017-19 with my university account, so initially I installed CFD 2019 as it's the latest version I have access to. That's why the message about a newer version already being installed doesn't make sense to me

"newer version" can also mean an update got installed and not removed. My guess is your uninstall was not complete or thorough, remnants remain. Microsoft has a tool to for that (msfixit something).

@pendean

I had the same assumption, and at this point I think it's likely I'm not being thorough enough during the uninstall. I'm guessing that there are some remnants of the initial installation, but I'm not sure how to find them. Like I said previously, I followed the Autodesk instructions for a complete uninstall of all Autodesk products twice, including manually deleting registry keys (the Microsoft fix-it tool is no longer available). Still my computer thinks it's already installed. Here's the link to the Autodesk instructions I used, let me know if they forget to mention any files that would also need to be deleted.

Hello @Anonymous,

Thank you for clarifying that this product is accessible to you under a different email.

This error is common when a previous version like (Standard, Premium or Ultimate) of a product was installed on the computer producing the "A newer version of this product is already installed" error.

Please try the steps below to help resolve this:

  1. Reboot the computer
  2. Log in as Administrator (check your permissions, full control
  3. Uninstall all CFD product, updates, hotfixes etc. from the computer using the Control Panel & the Clean Uninstall instructions
  4. Make sure you have an uninterrupted high-speed connection to the internet & try adjusting your LAN  & proxy settings etc.
  5. Clean up the TEMP folder. To open the TEMP folder, type %TEMP% in the search bar by the Windows Start Menu and hit Enter, then delete unnecessary (Windows)
  6. Temporarily disable/disconnect security features such as Antivirus, Firewall, VPN & UAC on your Windows operating system.
  7. Use the Browser Download Method in your Autodesk Account or via the AVA | Autodesk Virtual Agent (download all the parts)
  8. Visit your Autodesk Account & apply all product updates
