Hello Members,

some products fail to install, error 1603

Just wanted to provide the community with some helpful information on how to help troubleshoot Installation Failures & the tools you can use to help find the root of the issue.

File Sizes

When you download & install you can check a few things during the process to verify a good download & install. How big is the download?

Generally, Autodesk products are GB in size. If you are downloading compressed files, some software has multiple files. Did you get them all?

Look at the download links again. You could be missing components and need a complete download. Make sure you have all of the parts.

Your Autodesk Account will provide the download size of the product in GB + when you download a copy it is saved to the Temp folder + the extraction = You should need about 3 times the amount of disk space indicated.

Error messages & Pop-up Windows

Usually the very first message on screen is the important one. The first error code is what you would use to search on usually, as any remaining errors are usually a result of the first one. Search Google with the best keywords you can think (Autodesk product and/or error message) to see if it is related to something generic or specific.

Windows Event Viewer

Overview: Is a Microsoft tool used to gather logs on the system.

Location: In the Control Panel or use Windows key on your keyboard and search “Event Viewer”.

Function: This tool can locate the source of an error of an application or system error. The left-panel will list the different errors by category, the middle panel will show the “Event” details & the right-panel “Actions”.

The “Events” panel is the most important to you, look for the “Source”, “Event ID” & “User”. It can help to search the error in Google or search engine to see if this error as come up for other users.

Task Manager

Overview: Is a Microsoft tool can look up Processes, App History, Start up, Applications, Performance & Services.

Location: You can search for your Task Manager or press CTRL+ALT+DELETE.

Function: The most common of the tabs you can use is Processes, Services & Performance.

The Processes tab offers a list of all the running programs and apps on your computer.

The Services tab shows some of the Windows services installed on your computer.

The Performance tab provides a brief information on the major hardware components, like your CPURAMhard drive, network, and more.

Temp folder-

Overview: The Temp folder is used to store temporary files on Windows.

Location: You can use the Windows key on your keyboard and search for the Temp folder or the default location is in the C:\Windows directory.

Function: For Autodesk products the log is usually a text file and clearly named. I would open the file and search for the word “Failed” read the line- if it points to a specific item, like Microsoft Visual C++ uninstall it from the “Control Panel” locate the Autodesk product folder & run the “Setup.exe” installer again (only available from Download Now or Browser Download). Or if you don’t have the installer click here.
