Autodesk 3Ds Max 2016 won't install

 Hi guys,

I'm a long time user of 3DS Max and am now out of ideas. I can not get the latest version to install on my machine. I've been trying since last week. I'm on Win7 and have tried the install after disabling my antivirus and also deleted any 2016 folders that had been temporarily created. A dialogue comes up after I click on the install exe that I first download. It says Communication failure. At one point after first disabling the antivirus, it did start to install but when I came back to the computer there was nothing on the screen. I assumed it had finished installing but there was no version 2016 when I tried to open it!

I've also tried to get a physical copy sent out via the website. It gives you the option on the download link. It won't let me go to the next page though, after I fill in my address details, which isn't a PO box.

I've since contacted Autodesk but am still waiting on a response.

Any ideas would be much apreciated

Thanks

Ben

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Community.

In most cases, using a different download method resolves the Communication Failure error. For your reference, kindly refer to the solution here about Communication Failure message during download and installation.

If you are downloading from your Autodesk Account, try using the Browser Download method to obtain the installation files and run them later on to install the software. Kindly let us know how it goes.

Thank you,

Hi Jeffrey,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I'd already seen that solution, but the problem with that, is it doesn't give the option for different download methods, when trying to download 3DS Max 2016. It does give alternate methods for the other downloads like Autodesk Vault and Showcase. So I'm not sure if I was missing something.

However, I seem to have just fixed the problem. I've paused the full download until I move some files to make more space. I should know for sure, in an hour. I tried a different browser by using Google chrome instead of Firefox. I think Firefox still had some anti-virus cached into the browser, so although I'd deactivated it, it was still blocking it in the browser. I'm just guessing as I don't know for sure,  but it's working now through Chrome.

I'll let you know if it doesn't work, otherwise it's looking fixed

Thanks

Ben

Hi @Anonymous Welcome to Autodesk Community!

Are you running any anti-virus software? If yes, please disable it before running the setup.exe file and try the installation again.

Welcome to the community

Download and install per:

1. Access the Autodesk Virtual Agent (link is in my signature) and follow the download links to your product.
2. Download all of the parts (some applications only have a single part to download) for your product first. Do not continue until all of the parts have fully downloaded.
3. Navigate to your download folder location and extract (double click) part _001_00X.sfx.exe (or the single file download).
4. In a few seconds the extraction will start and prompt you to extract to C:\Autodesk.
5. Once the extraction is finished, the installation will automatically start.
6. Follow the installation steps for your product

If you want the full recommended installation steps, click on the installation link in my signature.

Good luck on your installation.
