Autodesk 2023 Licenses no longer backwards compatible?

Hello,

I wanted to see if I could get confirmation on this? It appears the new 2023 licenses are not licensing older products (i.e. 2022, 2021, etc.) like they have in the past. Is this is an expected behavior?

I still have computer labs running 2022 products and our 2022 licenses have just expired. I generated the new 2023 licenses but the 2022 products are no longer licensed and cannot use a 2023 license. In addition, I can't activate a new 2022 serial number for the products.

Autodesk gives me the new serial number here ( https://www.autodesk.com/education/edu-software/overview ) but I need to generate a new network license here ( https://registeronce.autodesk.com ). When I input the 2022 serial number, I get the error: The serial number you entered is not valid. Try again. (1).

It sounds like we need to migrate to 2023 ASAP as I can't update our 2022 licenses nor does the 2023 licenses license older products.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi @twatson,

Product licenses have always been version-specific, however previous versions that were still within support automatically renewed when you renewed your educational access. From recent posts, this automatic renewal hasn't been happening, so each version had to be manually renewed.

What I speculate to be happening is that previously when you requested a new license, the older versions were also bundled into the license file. The 2022 Product line should still be available to education until 2026 products are released.

Reach out to education support who should be able to generate a valid serial number to generate the license file: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/contact-support

You can use the 5 prior with a Subscription license.

However if you're getting this:

serial number you entered is not valid. Try again. (1).

What are you showing in the account manager for products available?

For:

The 2022 Product line should still be available to education until 2026 products are released.

Not they are only 1 year licenses now for educational, no longer the 3 years.

Were you able to get it resolved via mine or @leowarren34  posted suggestions?
