AutoCAD with specialized toolsets - confused from EDU licensing standpoint

Hello All,

We hired a new adjunct faculty and he asked if we had access to AutoCAD with specialized toolsets. I have never heard of the name so after some googling I am a bit more confused. So in our school we use AutoCAD 2021, AutoCAD MEP, MECH, Revit , all 2021. We get our licenses off the Autodesk EDU page and its all network 3000 concurrent users, which works for us.

I have few questions and hopefully someone can clarify from an EDU usage standpoint. It seems to be AutoCAD with specialized toolsets its a new subscription model that is just the same products we use above but licensed differently? When I look what's included, I have the toolsets installed already but with our EDU licensing model.

1. Is this autoCAD specialized toolsets licensing model something that is replacing our network edu concurrent licensing model? In my account page, I see that I can download autocad specialized toolsets but its only 1 seat. So this is concerning if this is the route going.

2. If all I needed was autoCAD 2021, MEP, Revit, MECH and I already have them installed with the current EDU concurrent licensing, there's nothing AutoCAD with specialized toolsets that is different program/toolset wise IF i were using the same products under this licensing model?

Hopefully I can get some clarification and especially from the EDU community.

Thank you,

the specialized toolsets are just separate downloads/installs

1 license of the specialized toolsets allows you to use all the autocad products in the toolset

DarrenP,

Thanks for replying. So looking my products and services page, I do see that as I expand further into the product AutoCAD specialized toolsets I do see separate downloads for products I already own but obviously they are licensed differently.

so is it accurate to say:

1. AutoCAD specialized toolsets is just a repacking of same products with a different license model for different use cases.

2. For our teaching lab classes setup, I can continue to use "normal" method of retrieving concurrent (max 3000 users) network licensing for each product I need in our classes. I can just simply ignore the autoCAD specialized toolsets product since its licensing method will not work for us since I only see 1 seat license and we can't run our classes this way.

Thank you for your time,

Hi @jvchong,

As Darren said, 1 license for AutoCAD with specialised toolsets covers you for all AutoCAD products (except ACAD for Max and ACAD LT), it's really just a bundle of products under 1 license seat. It's less of a different licensing model.

With regards to 2, the AutoCAD mechanical you have access to is identical since the license only determines access and rights rather than software functionality for almost every product.
