AutoCAD Student Edition?

Hi,

I bought a "re-sold" copy of AutoCAD today, however when looking at the license manager, it says "Student Version". I contacted the seller, who appear to be a registered legitimate business with lots of reviews and companies house records etc. And they insist that whilst it says student, their licensing agreement with Autodesk allows for commercial usage, and that it will behave exactly like a full edition as if it were bought from Autodesk.

Obviously I'm still suspicious, and just wanted to know if there were any ways of telling whether AutoCAD is saving any watermarks into my documents that suggest it was saved with a student version.

I've tried printing to PDF to see if anything came up in the borders like I remember it doing when I was a student, but can't see any issues whatsoever.

I do use this for commercial purposes, so it's important that I'm not saving any documents with a student version or breaking any laws.

And before people ask why I didn't buy it from Autodesk - the reviews of this site were good, they are a registered business with Companies House in the UK, and it was about a tenth the price.

thanks in advance.

You were scammed

Autodesk has authorized partners you have to go through

Just because they are a legitimate business doesn’t mean they are authorized to sell autodesk licenses

https://www.autodesk.com/partners/locate-a-reseller?us_oa=dotcom-us&us_si=ed9c4046-6302-4b41-bddf-f9...

Autdoes offers student licenses for free they no longer sell student licenses

As far as the watermark read this: https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Educational-Plot-S...

Currently you are violating the license agreement

Thanks for the replies. It's just odd that I'm not seeing any kind of watermarking, and when I open it with my old version of CAD 2013 (after saving it as a 2013 compatible version) it doesn't moan about it being created or edited with an educational version.

Anyway - I've informed my bank who are doing what they can, I've been e-mailing the company who haven't yet provided any proof that I can use this software for commercial usage, so have requested a refund. It's going to VISA as fraud.

"Companies House in the UK, and it was about a tenth the price."

Get what you pay for ... likely a scam.

Agreed, almost certainly a scam. It's just a shame Autodesk want silly money on a subscription basis. I'm no marketing expert, but I'm sure they would make a lot more if they sold their products at a more reasonable price, then people wouldn't be so tempted by other options.

Everyone's prices are going up. They give you options for subscriptions too. Monthly / Yearly / Multi year .. and tokens for daily.

It doesn't help the bottom line, when people buying pirated or scammed software ...

If you cannot afford Autodesk software, look elsewhere for comparable products: we all can't be members at all the clubs, some of us have to make do with the public spaces instead. Since the topic here is "autocad"
