AutoCad LT 2004

I bought a licensed version of AutoCadLT2004 (on CD) a while back and have successfully been using it on my laptop. My laptop died and I copied the CD to a flash drive and tried to load that into my new SurfacePro 4 with no luck.

I use this software ever so often for personal use only and have no desire buy a subscription or even update.

Recommendations anyone? Thanks.

Welcome to the community..

That version is too old to work on new operating system and machines.  Most likely it will not be able to install and/or work.  Its a 14 year old product.

Hello. 2004 is a pretty old package and has not been sold for about 14 years. The biggest issue I would assume you would run into would be OS related. 2004 would be a 32 bit app, before the era of tablets, and that would have been 4 Operating systems back… about. Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, then Win XP. I think this was a Win XP app.

Your machine overshoots these, certainly, but possibly too far. For instance, it needs internet explorer 6- long since discontinued. Microsoft Edge may not be a valid substitute.

Being that the CD was the install method, and you copied to USB. Did you copy the ISO or the source files? If you copied the iso and are opening the ISO and trying to run, I would switch to source files.

The install errors would be the place to start, really. The install technology may not match your OS, which I am guessing is Windows 10 Creator update. You could start researching the specific errors or possibly look to get a virtualized environment to match the 2004 requirements. It may ultimately be a no-go, but it sort of depends on the errors.

Usually the first error is the place to start. I would search google and see where it may be connected. You may find a module that can be installed to help the issue.

Autodesk provides support for current version & three versions back meaning we only provide downloads for currently supported products. 

Please note that any older unsupported versions can become unavailable at any time & may not function on a newer operating system. Please review the system requirements before attempting to download & install.

As of Feb 2016, Autodesk ended the sale of perpetual license on all products except Suites.   So at this point you can only subscribe to Autodesk Applications.   Not suire what you need to accomplish but you may want to look into AutoCAD 360 Pro.  Cloud based AutoCAD application but doesn't have all the functions like Acad LT or the full version.

Go buy a cheap external USB disk drive and confirm the installation truly fails. here are tips from Microsoft that may help as well http://www.howtogeek.com/228689/how-to-make-old-programs-work-on-windows-10/

You might also be able to buy a fix from these folks http://www.longbowsoftware.com to help if the above free tips from Microsoft do not work.

Hi i had a similar situation but different problem

Recently upgraded laptop and transferred AutoCad LT 2004 via flash drive, all installed and was working perfectly

Three months down the line now needs to register and won't run. I have tried the online automated registration with no success (cannot automatically upload files as prompted)

I have tried e mailing Autodesk to no avail.

I am in South Africa and local partners are clueless

Any Ideas please?

Welcome to the Autodesk User's Community..

As of Aug 31st, the 2010 product line and older will no longer be able to be activated due to 3rd party systems that generate these activation codes have been obsoleted and no longer supported.

@Anonymous, i know this is quite old but just want to let you know i have just downloade my Autocad LT 2004 on a Windows 11 and it stilll work fine
