AutoCAD 2015 & 2017 crash at startup on Windows 10

Good day:

First of all, thanks in advance to anyone that is willing to take some valuable time to provide or even suggest a solution for my issue.

I've using AutoCAD since I have memory (early release 11 in late 80's), so this isn't my first rodeo. now the facts:

  • I run  Win 10 Pro, Id. AA129, as a local admin. Currently have installed AutoCAD 2015 & 2017, both with the latest updates and service packs, and also CADWorx 2017 a 3rd party plug-in for 3D plant and equipment modelling from Intergraph, which by the way it's been used in my company for more than 5 years, with no particular issues, .
  • I've worked with 2014, 2015, 2016 & 2017 versions of AutoCAD and similar versions of CADWorx with absolutely no problems, until yesterday when it started to freeze on opening (start tab), leaving me with no chance to do anything, not even to see my desktop. the only thing to do is to close the application via the Task Manager.
  • Tried to open AutoCAD with (and without) the CADWorx plug-in, when 2017 crashed for the umpteenth time, I tried 2015 with similar results.
  • I logged in with a different user on my machine, tried 2015 & 2017 with similar results.
  • Tried the "Reset Settings to Default", and..., guess what?, nothing.

The only thing left to do, from my point of view, is to reinstall the software, so if anyone out there had a similar issue and found a solution, I'd be really appreciative if its shared.

Thanks,

Ernesto Alvarez.

UPDATE:

  • Uninstalled 2015, it ran the first time, then froze.
  • Installed 2017 in a different machine, same network, NOTHING.
  • Borrowed the licence from the server and disconnected the machine from the network, NADA!!!

Please, I'm really desperate, I have an important project delivery next week, and running out of options.

Thanks.

Ernesto.

Hi,

>> until yesterday when it started to freeze

When all was working well until yesterday look to your system what changed to your system since it was working well previously (updates, other software installed, antivirus disable, firewall disable, ...)

You might also try to set your system back to your previous system restore point.

Good day Alfred, and thanks for your time, but this behavior started out of the blue, no changes or updates were made to the OS, no new software or apps installed, just plain and simple work. Closed a session with CADWorrx Plant, and when tried to start a session with CADWorx Equipment, then it all began. Tried to launch AutoCAD 2017 and also 2015 alone, but nothing.

Hi,

>> no changes or updates were made to the OS

At least the antivirus sofware gets updated every day, so the statement "no changes or updates" are hard to beleive 😉

>> when tried to start a session with CADWorx Equipment, then it all began

So without CadWorx all was working fine?

Dear Alfred:

  1. You are right, he antivirus updates everyday, but at midnight (I normally leave my machine on everyday except for fridays, so the AV can receive updates), this problem started at 5:30 pm on a friday.
  2. It was working fine with and without CADWorx before. I just attended an online seminar about CADWorx two weeks before, and have been working on a project ever since. One week with the seminar plus two weeks in the project, no problems at all. Before that, almost two years working with AutoCAD 2017, with no particular issues.

Thanks,

Ernesto.
