Can anyone tell me what error 204 is? I have asked this question to support and gotten the run around without getting a direct answer. This error happens when trying to activate any of our Autodesk software.

Welcome to the Autodesk User's Community..

This usually points to an activation of a legacy version of software that's no longer possible..  What product and version are you trying to activate?

Are these perpetual (commercial) license?   Educational license?

If commercial license, do you have an active maintenance plan for them?

Activation is all about the history of the serial #.

These are educational licenses. We have been using them all year and
recently switched our licencing from server based to standalone. After
Autodesk changed our license type I keep getting this error when trying to
activate new installs. They have been giving me activation codes but I have
around 50 new devices to do and 3 different software's. So if I have to
request a activation code for everyone then this is going to be a long year.

Standalone activate is per each machine and product.   You can't activate one and expect it to work for all the machines.  Why did you switch and make your life much harder?

When did you make this switch?

Educational license are only good for the current release 2019 and 3 legacy versions (2016-2018).  2015 version has fallen off the radar.

We made this switch back in January. Autodesk help us with the switch. Why
would they not tell us that 2015 is no longer supported for educational use.

If you made the switch back in Jan..  2015 would still be good..  2015 fell off the educational radar when the 2019 product line was released in March/April.  Is there a reason why you still need 2015?  The other versions are free (2016-2019)..  Smiley LOL

But how are you activating your license?  Since you switch to standalone, you activate each product per machine separately since the activation is tied to that given machine.

Hello @DR-Drafting

I would like to apologize for the lack of information that was provided before you made the switch from network licensing to standalone. The Educational Software program includes the current version & 3 versions back, so with the release of 2019 products we now support 2016-2019 as Mark mentioned.

If you stay with the standalone activation process you will likely receive the same serial #, you can use a deployment to install.

It is advised that if you have a large network of computers with limited access to the internet & need to make changes to meet the Educational program's requirements (current version & 3 versions back) that network licensing is the best set up for your organization.

Thank you for posting.

Thank you for your responses. I spoke to the teachers involved and we are moving to 2017. I installed this on a computer to test it out and it is working fine.

Thanks again.
