96,7 flexnet error but the service is serving licenses

reinstalled the latest LMTools, regenerated license file.  Checked all directory permissions.

The service is running and serves licenses.  What we cannot do is re-read the license file, start or stop the service from LMTools.  The only way we can update the license file is to kill the process in task manager, verify the service is not running, copy the license change in and restart the service manually.  From LMTools Status Inquiry  we get:

Please provide the debug log file as specified in the config service tab of your license manager.  Although it contains names, there's no "sensitive" data that would impact your organization if you do share it here.

Log files shows license are being issued and numerous max out license.  Are users not getting a license?  Also you are using an option file.  Without showing any sensitive information can you show me the syntax of your options file?  You can also private message me and I will tell you your next step.

users are getting a license.

We have to kill the service on the server to make any license or opt file changes.

The error messages appear with or without an opt file in place.

I have replicated the issue across two different servers - just built up a new server and same issue.

LMTools and associated services have been uninstalled re-installed several times troubleshooting.

This error is very confusing because lmgrd.exe is running and licenses are being pulled.

lmgrd is not running: License server machine is down or not responding.
See the system administrator about starting the license server system, or
make sure you're referring to the right host (see LM_LICENSE_FILE).

As can be seen by the posts, this has been installed/re-installed several times.

* attempted on two different servers, same results

* users get a license, the issue is that LMtools and any reporting mechanism like lmstat reports that the service is not running so inquiries are impossible.

* followed all advice from private messages.

Really need to get this working again so that I can report license usage.

Running of out ideas..  But is "EVERYONE" with full rights added to the location where the debug log file is located?

No, Users and LOCAL SERVICE  and SYSTEM have those permissions

I just added EVERYONE to it as well... same problem.

This is also the first version I have installed to get the DACL error message.  Just noticed that Autodesk has published TWO knowledgebase article on this with two different resolutions.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/simplecontent/content/updating-d...

So this article says to go back to the previous LMTools, however we are told that we need the absolute latest for 2018 licenses.

Hello @ic349,

Understood it is confusing in some cases one solution works & in another case it's a different solution. In this case, you should be on the latest version of LMtools.

Please make sure the Network License Manager folder is set with full permissions "EVERYONE", then remove the LMtools Autodesk service & set it up again by following the NLM Installation & Configuration guide.

I hope this works for you if not someone at Autodesk will to able to assist you soon.

Please "Accept As Solution" if a reply has helped resolve the issue or answered your question, to help others in the community.
