3ds max 2016 won't start can't connect error

So I use this program a couple of times a year, subbing for a single month now and then. I reinstalled my win 7 computer late last year, and now when I install 3ds max 2016, it installs fine - but when I go to launch, it says it can't connect with the server. However, I found posts mentioning a range of ways to fix the problem - and none of those fixes worked. There was also talk of a poodle hotfix or something that might solve the problem, but there is no version of the hotfix for 3ds max 2016... Has anyone else with 3ds max 2016 been unable to launch for the first time due to a "connection error", and if so, were you able to fix it and get it working? Thanks for any help.

I just want to get a clear a picture of what's going on. Would it be possible for you to post a screenshot of the error you're getting?

Hi, when I click the icon to start the program, it pops up saying "Autodesk Account: Connecting" and it thinks for a while, then the first screen attached below appears. When I click Quit, the second error message appears.

Thanks for the info. So as I expected this looks to be a licensing issue rather than a 3ds Max one. Let me get my colleague into this one. I'll probably get a case opened as there will be some sensitive contract information being passed around.
