Relative Scaling Tool

Relative Scaling Tool

I have a geolocated DWG file that imports at the wrong scale into IW. The DWG has a dimensioned right-of-way to use as a reference for scaling. I cannot snap to these CAD lines in order to assign an accurate scale factor when configuring the file.

I'm proposing a tool similar to Revit's Scale Tool where I can click on the origin by snapping to one end of the line, using a relative distance to the end point of that line and then entering the preferred length with IW automatically calculating the scale factor needed. This would make using CAD files more accurate and much easier than guessing. Additionally, it always seems to stop adjusting after a few attempts and I have to delete it and re-import it. What's up with that?!!

A workaround is to export your DWG as an SDF file. InfraWorks reads SDF files with correct coordinates. Import the SDF as barriers and create a custom barrier style that mimics linework. As shown in the picture, white barriers can be styled to appear as simple lines.

Thanks, Goran for sharing your workaround as a solution rather than providing a vote for a more-logical way of solving it. I find it puzzling so many years after Autodesk acquired InfraWorks, that so many tools are undeveloped and the lack of file handling (see Revit and DWGs, Revit and InfraWorks) between software is really concerning. There's just an overall lack of precision and ability to edit things in small ways.

So many tools have Crayola Crayon-levels of development and it hasn't gotten much better with new releases. If we propose better ways as Ideas and they don't get any votes, does Autodesk even hear them?
