Transparency on imported 3d models?

Is there a way to set transparency on imported 3d models from sketchup?

Or is there another format that supports transparency?

yes we have a license but i never used it.

I have found 3DS Max models to a little better for Infraworks. You can import SketchUp models into 3DS Max then add better materials.
