Shared View

Hi

I have been working on a model and using Shared View to show clients.

But I recently upgrade to Infraworks 2020 version.  I started to work on the model again and when I exported to Shared View, the model did not come up. Is this something about the recent upgrade that others have noticed or is there some new setting that I need to be aware of.

Also, my model in Concept View has animation and good lighting but when I put it in Shared View, the model looks dark and sombre. Playing with the environmental settings does not really improve this and if they did, then the client would need to change them every time you go into the shared view.

Is there a work around for this or another viewer option that I can share with clients.

Thanks for your help

Hi @Anonymous ,

what was the last version of InfraWorks that worked fine with shared views?
It could be that there is something in the model that the LMV (Large Model Builder - shared view) cannot process.

The InfraWorks log files might show model issues (%appdata%\Autodesk\Autodesk InfraWorks\logs).

If you can share your model I can double check and test on my side. Let me know if that is possible.

Regarding to the second issue that the model looks different in LMV compared to InfraWorks, that is a known issue. The reason is, because the render engines are not the same. Our development team is investigating if and how it is possible to have the same look in the LMV as in InfraWorks.

Regards,

Karsten.

Hi Karsten

Thanks for the reply.

The last version I was using was 2019.3.32

How would be best to share the model with you.

Also thanks for the comment about the shared view rendering, great to hear that it is being looked at.

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous ,

the easiest way to share the model is via Bim360 docs if you have uploaded it there. Just add me to the Bim360 docs folder (karsten.saenger(at)autodesk.com).

If no im360 docs is available, just create a zip file of the model.sqlite and model.files folder and upload it to the OneDrive folder I will share with you.

Regards,

Karsten.

Any update on the render engine Karsten? From my experience these shared views from infraworks are completely un-useable due to the dark and sombre lighting mentioned above. See my screenshots below, maybe I am missing something that can improve this situation at least slightly.

From a top-down view the model looks great, but when I move around and look from more of a side view I can barely see anything, certainly not clear enough to send to clients!

Looking forward to any advice!

Thanks,

Jeremy

Hi @Karsten.Saenger ,

Can this be moved or added to a bugfix list? I don't think this feature is currently working as intended. There is so much potential here in communicating the idea's with clients and colleagues. To have the lighting not working from any viewing angle other than top-down is a huge let-down for shared views.

I recently upgraded to 2020.2 and the same issue still persists.

Thanks again,

Jeremy

Hi @Anonymous ,

this topic is already on the "ToDo" list in the development department.
It's not a program issue, so you won't see any change with new InfraWorks versions, but it's a server/cloud issue.

I know that the development team is looking for a better setting in the online Viewer to make the models look better there, so stay tuned....

Regards,

Karsten.

Awesome, thanks @Karsten.Saenger

Where can I follow this issue and potentially get a notification when the server/cloud issue is updated?

Jeremy

Hi @Anonymous ,

I expect such news are delivered via the InfraWorks Help files in the "What's new" sections.
But it could also happen that there is a change on the server side made just silently...

Karsten.

Hello Karsten,

Have there been any updates in regard to this issue with everything being dark in the Autodesk Viewer? I'm working in Infraworks 2021 and am having the same problem when I publish shared views. This would be a great feature to allow clients to visualize their projects, but with everything being so dark in the online viewer, its very unusable at the moment.

Thanks,

Hi @eheiser,

I can say that there have been made some investigations if the shader in the Shared Views can be changed to look more like in native InfraWorks.

A new environment setting will be available in a near future release, so a minor improvement was possible. However, unfortunately, it's not possible to transfer the shader and model look from InfraWorks to the online Shared Views.

Regards,

Karsten.

Hi Karsten,

Thanks for the reply. I look forward to seeing the new shader when it is released. I think the shared views feature could have a lot of potential once this issue is resolved.

Thanks,

Evan

+1

We have also the same issues with the Shared View and we are waiting for a new version. We can't show our projects to our customers with this one...

Hello

The visuals have been improved already and the results can be seen when viewing the models directly in BIM360. The sky is blue, the colors are brighter and the reflections have been removed. Shared views are generated by InfraWorks and this change will be available with the 2021.1 release.

I hope this helps,

Martin
