It's my understanding that you can make a few modifications to a SFF file with the Fighter Factory software which you can download for free at several different sites online. Never really tried this though so I cant guarantee that it will work. What are you trying to achieve?

For now I just want to copy the existing InfraWorks blue POI sff file to create different color POI markers.

If you export only the desired SFF asset out of InfraWorks you can import it into something like Max to make your adjustments. Then reimport it into InfraWorks. This will also work for creating new textures for things like POI's.

Jason also wrote a recent InfraTip about how to edit stock .sffs in order to change the face of street signs. You can read that here:

I've tried mulitple times to get that to work and it never has. I think it's because my model is a mile high and I'm in imperial units. Even after creating a surface at elevation 0, placing a sign, exporting it out, changing the image, and then importing it back in, the new sign is gigantic! I'm thinking it might be a unit issue from InfraWorks to Max and back to InfraWorks again.
If I get a chance, I'll change everything back to metric and try again.

When exporting from Max as an FBX be sure to set the correct units in the export window. If you leave it as automatic it will change the units from your default messing it up when you import it in the style Palette.
