Roads Displayed Beneath Terrain Overlay

I have a LandXML inserted  as a surface and an aerial png file draped across it as a terrain overlay. Whenever I try to import roads as LandXML files or create them in Infraworks from scratch, they are displayed beneath the overlay and only appear if I turn off the overlay. (For example, if I draw a road with barriers, the barriers poke up above the terrain but the road surface is hidden beneath the overlay). How do I change the display order to make the roads appear on top of the overlay? This model is for a marketing pursuit, so it's important to have both the overlay and the roads in the model.

I'm using Infraworks LT 2020 and I'm pretty much brand new to this program, so I'm sorry if this is a ridiculous question. Also please be very detailed in your explanation, as I find Infraworks very unintuitive.

Did you create the model initially with model builder?

If so, did you put the imported LandXML surface under the "Ground Surface" category in the Surface Layers window? This will integrate the LandXML surface with the base surface so that the roadways interact with it. Anything that is not under "Ground Surface" will be treated as a completely separate surface layer. For example, this is useful for showing underground surfaces for different soil strata, where you would want the layer to be completely independent from the ground above.

I didn't use Model Builder, as Infraworks LT doesn't come with that feature. When I imported the landXML, I only had the option to configure it as a terrain. It then propogated as a ground surface automatically.

If I understand you correctly, it sounds like as long as this landxml is a ground surface, my roads won't show up. I tried importing a flat plane below my real-world elevation, assigning that as the ground surface, and moving the landxml up to be an uncategorized surface, but then the landxml then turned off and couldn't be turned back on.

Is the road/ground surface conflict just an unfortunate side effect of using Infraworks LT? Most of the issues I'm having with the program seem to be related to a lack of Model Builder.

I’m admittedly not very knowledgeable about LT, but I think that you should still be able to do this.

Are you able to attach a screenshot or screencast of the issue?

Hi @rbarton1 ,

as @mzjensen mentioned, a screencast or some screenshots will help to better understand the issue.

Did you check the LandXML file for roads in the data source configuration if the data source is draped on ground?

Regards,

Karsten.
