Infraworks Elevation Spikes

Hello,

I am new to Infraworks. I am using Civil 3D and Infraworks together. I have imported my surfaces and alignments into Civil3D and created my alignments, added the zoning and benchmarks for the site in Civil 3D and imported everything into Infraworks. In Infraworks I was able to add in the correct surfaces however when I import the roads, alignments, and road coverage these elevation spikes appear. I am not sure why or how this is happening. My first thought is maybe if some of the roads go off of the surface or alignment it drops down to zero because it doesn't know where to go. But, for some of the spikes they are not exceeding over the surface or alignment.

Any ideas would be appreciated! If there are any questions you have for me that would help you to resolve this issue please let me know. Thank you!

Hi @Anonymous ,

InfraWorks is built to simulate the earth. Therefore, everything wants to connect (drape) to a terrain as in real worlds things don't soar above ground ususally.

From your screenshotds it looks like your terrain surface is a little bit too small so that parts of the above features (coverage?) connects to 0.0 m elevation.

I suggest to import a real ground surface additionally that is large enough to cover your whole area of interest. If you don't have one, you could create a Model Builder model of your area and export the (SRTM) surface as IMX from there and import into your model.

Regards,

Karsten.
