Infraworks 2025 civil dwg import error

I am trying to import dwg files with civil surfaces. Have tried multiple files that have different surfaces in them but I still get the same error message:

Autodesk InfraWorks 2025 cannot connect to the given file data sources.

See the details and the Message Log for further information.

Details:

Autodesk InfraWorks 2025 cannot connect to the given file data sources.

See the details and the Message Log for further information.

I have Civil 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 all installed on my computer.

I tried:

- Restarting Infraworks

- Restarting Civil
- Restarting my computer

- Deleting local cache

- Importing other dwgs with other surfaces

- Creating a brand new civil file with civil 2023 and also 2025 with a simple surface and importing that

- Importing same dwgs into other Infraworks projects

- Installing Inraworks Hotfix that came out at the end of september

Nothing I have tried works.

However, I have no problem importing aerial images or shape files or it seems anything else other than Civil 3d files.

I think it all worked about two weeks ago. Has there been any updates since? I cant decide if this is a Civil issue or an Infraworks.

Any ideas how to solve this?

Hi @peterfarkas ,

to import a Civil 3D DWG, InfraWorks needs to have Civil 3D installed in the same version. It runs Civil 3D in the background to convert the DWG to IMX and then it loads the IMX file.

So, a workaround for you could be to export an IMX from Civil 3D and import that into InfraWorks.

Why all of a sudden InfraWorks cannot start or find Civil 3D on your computer, I don't know. It could be that a clean re-installation solves the issue.

Regards,

Karsten.

Thanks Karsten!

I forgot to answer but the IMX idea totally saved me. I didn't know you could do that. So it was nice learning something new along the way.
