Can I export an imx file from 2016 infraworks and open the imx file in 2014 Civil 3D?  Or is it not compatible?

Matt,

Thanks for getting back to me. Do you know if there is a limit to size of the file? The first imx file I created turned out to be a little over 8GB..... I think that may a little too large for Civil 3D to handle as it has crashed twice now. Also, should i take 4+ hours to create an imx file from infraworks? Seems a little long to me, but I am just learning this software....

Thanks,

Darryl

The largest IMX I've ever created was probably about 800MB. It took maybe 10-15 minutes to import into Civil 3D but it worked. 8 GIGS is crazy! How big is the site? Did you max it out at 200 square KM?

Its a 1 mile stretch of pipeline is all...... have no idea why it would be such a large file....

Maybe lot of detail 3d model/fbx file in your model. I suggest you duplicate your model and delete objects you don't require in civil 3d. Usually I have a model that only contains civil 3d objects (terrain, road, pipelines or any object you require in civil)

Rather than create a duplicate of the model you could simply create a new proposal and delete any excess information leaving just the things you *need* to export.

Take a look at this post about improving display speeds and performance. There may be some tweaks you can perform in InfraWorks 360 to simplify the model before you bring it into CIvil 3D.
