How to label datasource objects?

Hi,

Is there a way to add a label for objects that come from a datasource which are not POI's?  I have added a tooltip and thought I could utilize the proximity trick for showing the information about each object in the datasource but that is not available.  Changing the properties on each individual object to add the tooltip would be unpractical.  Just a simple tooltip/label that could be defined based on the attribute information which can be set to always visible would be ideal.

Is there another method that I have overlooked?

Thanks.

What type of 'data source' are you using?

I've got 'tool tips' assigned to 'coverage areas' (sourced from a SHP/SDF) where the 'names' and 'ecological values' from the source attributes are annotated as 'tool tips'.

Things like generic '3D Models' typically don't carry attribute data, thus do not have that facility in their data source configuration.  Although this is becoming a little 'less true' for eg. an FBX from REVIT does tend to have fairly logical names (from the families) for the various elements that make up the object, but not sure you'd what tool tips showing up for every nut/bolt, transom, rebar in a bridge structure for example...

The dataset is a point driven dataset from a SQL spatial db.  (Parking meters)  I applied a parking meter symbol to the point location from the City Furniture library.  I changed the 'Name' and 'Description' attribute field to use what is in the db.  Then, I created a tooltip using the %Name% and %Description% attribute field.

All of it works great and looks good, except the ask is if they can see the tooltip information without hovering over it.  However, I can only see that if I set it per point through the advanced section of the properties window when I select the individual point locations.

I see what you mean / can understand the frustration.
Not such an issue with the coverage type of data sources...

Can also understand why you may not want them loaded as POI's, having enough fun not being able to segregate trees and chainage labels myself.

John de Leeuw has a brilliant solution here:

A null component road should be able to be used as the source alignment for the storyboard video.

Another method, from Jerry Bartels, using text data to Infraworks is found here:
