Terrain overlays can be used:
- as a reference for helping you sketch buildings or site planning
- to enhance the quality of surface imagery detail in your models in desired regions
- to drape watermarks/logos/visual brands directly to your terrain.
- ....any other ideas? Post them here as comments!
Here's the basic workflow to add a terrain overlay to your model and locate it in-canvas
1) Open InfraWorks 360.
2) Import your terrain overlay (currently only raster image formats are supported) through the data sources panel as a Raster file type.
3) Configure the terrain overlay.
- Note that the 2D Terrain Overlay feature does not currently handle geocoordinate data, so any coordinate info in your imported data will not be automatically populated to InfraWorks 360. The easiest way to specify geo-location is to simply Interactively Place your terrain overlay in-canvas, then use reference points to locate - scale - rotate the overlay more precisely in-canvas.
- If you encounter issues with brightness settings 'washing-out' your terrain overlay visibility, try adjusting your Raster imagery gamma value on the Raster tab.
4) You can then adjust opacity for the terrain overlay in the Properties Panel (opacity values span from 0 to 1.0, with 1.0 representing no transparency).
5) You can also change the stacking order of terrain overlays using the Surface Layers dialog.
That's it!
