Component Roads: Surface interaction

Hello,

I wanted to give Infraworks another chance and decided to try the component roads-workflow since I've only seen some videos but never actually used them.

My goal was to create preliminary designs and some quick visualizations.

Unfortunately I hit some dead ends very quickly and I would like to know if I'm just not experienced enough to implement what I want or if those points are limits to the software.

Is there a way to control how the component road assembly should behave once my shoulder hits the existing-ground surface?

There is no real way to create assemblies in a matter similiar to how it's done in Civil3d, right? The are no "Slope to Surface" parts?

On the left side I'd like to add a ditch, on the right side I'd like another road to be placed. I was successful in playing around with the assembly "before" there's grading involved and I could also adjust grading with different grading zones but the grading was always the "endpoint" of my assemblies.

I got some more sections I was trying to "recreate" in Infraworks but most of them require a basic surface interoperability. Back to Civil3d-Corridors, I assume?

Thanks for any inputs!

Hi @cwr001 ,

it looks like you are trying a detailed road planning in InfraWorks.
Please note that InfraWorks was designed for representation in context and 3D.

That means, start your corridor design in InfraWorks, load that coarse design into Civil 3D for detailed planning, then synchronize the design corridor back to InfraWorks for presentation in geo-context.

Regards,

Karsten.

No, I'm not. I just want to do "representation in context and 3D" that slightly differ from what IW considers a "normal" section.

The options I have are plentiful as long as the actual road components are concerned and I can, for example, add a lane to another lane to a barrier to another lane and sprinkle it with decorations.

I turns out I can't add anything to my daylight. With an idea that was accepted more than four years ago I figured something might have changed I wasn't aware of but it did not.

Hi @cwr001 ,

as mentioned in the ideas section, the idea is not yet implemented although accepted.
@ramesh_sridharan , do you have an update in this topic?

Regards,

Karsten.
