Are local (not cloud) models portable like they used to be?

Ever since I started using version 2019, it seems the models cannot be copied to another location and opened.

I always have copied the sqlite file and its folder of files, I am not making basic mistakes like skipping the files folder.

I get messages from IW saying the database is corrupt on the copied model.

I'm wondering if adesk changed the ability to copy models, or if the problem really is my databases have issues.

Given that 2019 has been a dog for me, its hard to tell.

thanks

Seems to work fine for me. I just copied some stuff to a new location yesterday and it worked well.

@Todd_Rogers

thx, I thought some of mine were working too, but I've been messing with 2016 and 2018 so lose track.

I'm seeing too many copied models give me the corrupt database message though, something has changed.

Hi @JamesMaeding,

have you tried creating a zip file of the model.sqlite and the model.folder?

Then copy the zip file and extract in the destination location.

Regards,

Karsten

no, because my computer has not messed up copying a set of files, ever, as far as I know. It works or does not copy.

Very curious why zip would matter.

I know that we are dealing with databases which change as you touch them. So I have IW closed before copying.

Also, some of the models are ones others sent me. While I would have thought they did something wrong, my own are doing the same thing sometimes. Again, this is only with 2019 I am seeing this.

Hi @JamesMaeding,

the official recommendation from our product team is to only use the Bim360 docs platform for collaboration (version 2019) or the "old" InfraWorks cloud (version 2018) or zip file for copying models.

The reason is that InfraWorks uses git to handle the models and there are a lot of files created without extension (i.e. "index") or without file name (i.e. ".dir"). There is no guarantee that in a network environment and copy process such files are not ignored, renamed or deleted.

Regards,

Karsten.
