Abutments with splayed wing walls

Hi

I am after modeing a bridge with splayed wing walls with different angle for each side. Is that practical in infraworks?

attached sketch shows two possible abutment in infraworks (Fig 1-2) which is built in already but I need to model abutment like Fig 3 in my sketch.

Please advise if it's possible to model in Infraworks360 rolling sandbox.

Thanks

Mahdi

I was able to extend the length of the Wing Wall, but I was not able to skew the left and right wing walls out so as to create the splayed abutment.. I think you may be able to directly author splayed wing walls using our Beta, Project Kameleon, but I am not certain. Let me check on that with the product team. In the meantime, you can check out Project Kameleon on labs: https://beta.autodesk.com/project/home.html?cap=%7b8CF9868B-83DB-4E53-93FE-1F36FBB4D92A%7d

Also, I would suggest adding this as a request on our InfraWorks 360 IdeaStation.

In case this is helpful, here's how I lengthened the wing walls:

1) create bridge (design bridge)

2) select abutment in edit mode (shown in subterranean view in this example)

3) adjust attributes in the Wing Wall section of the abutment asset card. ( I increased length left and length right from 6m to 12m for this quick example)

Hi,

I do not believe this can be done currenty inside InfraWorks, but I need to check the Bridge Module to verify.

For best results, I would create a simple 3D model of this in ACAD, or perhaps 3DS Max, export as an FBX, and then import the model to InfraWorks. This will give you full control over the angle of the walls [when modeling] and also let you scale it as needed. The problem with importing your own 3D model is the lack of grading around this wing wall. That being said, a Coverage Area may give you the results you are looking for.

can we copy and modify the existing abutment component in Project kameleon to make it splayed? if so would you tell me where can I get the abutment original file and duplicate to create the new abutment?

The current version of project Kameleon on the labs will be updated very soon (likely later this month).  One of the key enhancements will be to enable content authors to add their own parametric models for piers, abutments and foundations.  We will be including a dedicated tutorial and video for creating such bridge components. Once created, these new models can be added to the InfraWorks catalogs and accessed in the same way as the current options for piers, abutmenst and foundations. Project Kamemelon leverages the full power of Autodesk Inventor's solid modeling capabilities.  The integration within InfraWorks makes it very easy for others to use and adjust the exposed parameters in the context of their project.

This will allow you to add new abutments, including the option with splayed wing walls that you mentioned.  Initially, if the grading needs to better reflect such abutments, the recommended workflow is to open up the InfraWorks model in Civil3D and refine the grading around the abutments.  This updated terrain grading can then be brought back into the InfraWorks model.
