I'm designing mainly railways and I'm struggling with current options in InfraWorks. So I'm suggesting how to improve this part of the software but first some intro: What is my workflow: I'm creating earthworks in Civil 3D(ballast, grading, CANT, etc) and structures in Revit(tunnels, retaining walls, bridges) and I'm bringing them in Infraworks. There is a problem with multiple same objects like catenary, sleepers, and rails. If I place them in C3D or Revit it's a huge amount of detailed blocks that are causing really bad performance at projects over 20km but Infraworks handles this perfectly. Also If I create them(ignoring slow performance) in C3D or Revit by Dynamo with all CANT, and bring them in Infraworks they are always miss aligned because of the huge coordinates. Where is the problem in InfraWorks: -In existing rail template: =Can't change rail profile =Can't change sleepers =Can't add CANT and rotate sleepers and rails (As I said I'm creating earthworks in C3D so I'm ignoring this part with profiles) *Please excuse me if it's possible somehow, but I didn't find anything. As you can see If I add sleepers like decorations, they are not rotated or moved. I can't add rails(I can't create them as corridor from C3D but it's not accurate) What is my idea: - To can add custom sleepers and rail profiles with CANT info from C3D-reading CANT data and rotating them. They can be placed on the centerline and edited by offset options - Creating catenary assembly- contacting columns and cables for better design checks - Possibility to cut rails and add joint assembly at every X station or manually define or only one welded rail. Detailed crossovers and turnouts I think they are too complex to be added as option in InfraWorks. Don't get me wrong, it will be really nice if they are in InfraWorks, but they are not causing these performance issues in C3D/Revit and can be modeled there.
