Detailed Bridge Control

Detailed Bridge Control

We need more flexability with bridge creation, especially with bridges with high skews.

Currently to get bridge decks to cover the full length of the span where there is a high skew, we have to make over long bridges and set the abutment offset to high numbers. When we do this the deck is visually good, but it is over long and quantities are incorrect.

We also need to be able to adjust the wing wall skew, currently it matches the bridge skew but we need the wings walls to be independent of the bridge skew.

The next release of InfraWorks 360 will be exposing much more flexibility in the modeling of decks and girders. The new parametric deck capabilities will support super-elevation, end skews, variable haunches etc.

With Project Kameleon (which leverages Autodesk Inventor), one can model a wide range of parametric abutments, piers, foundations, girders etc. These models then can be added to the InfraWorks 360 models and accessed in the same way as the ones that ship with the product.

The image below provides a preview where I created a parametric abutment with splayed wingwalls. The image also shows how the deck respects the skew of the abutment. Note that the approach slab is not shown as this is left for a future enhancement.

Mr. Ara,

is it possible to become Beta tester also for Infraworks?

Hi Nicola

We have a Rolling Sandbox program for InfraWorks 360.  This allows users to try out (and provide feedback) on intermediate versions (between offcial releases) every couple of weeks!

We would also like to be able to independently control the skew of the bridge girders.

Currently they match the bridge skew, we would like to have the girders run perpendicular to the abutments. This would help with bridges with large skews.

Hi Trevor

Can you provide a sketch to clarify the requested functionality regarding independent girder skews that run perpendicular to abutments?
