Definition of LOS

Hi!

When simulating traffic in InfraWorks one result we get out is LOS but I cannot find how the letters A-F are defined. Are they defined as in the American Highway Capacity Manual or in another way?

Thanks,

Emelie

As you expected, this LOS (Level of service) is a measure of performance, based on delays (generally) in the intersection (per approach). In Autodesk Mobility Simulation (MS) you can measure this for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic (multi-modal in fact). In MS, we divide the measure (say control delays) into six bands with "A" as best to "F" as the worst (as in HCM for intersections). Yes, it is HCM based and we can consider other standards too.

If you are on the Mobility Simulation panel, go to Reporting -> Level Of Service -> Service Levels, you could find there's a drop-down list for you to choose the standards of LoS including

HCM - vehicles at Signalised intersection,

HCM - vehicles at Unsignalised intersection,

NSW RTA - vehicles at Signalised intersection, (rms.nsw.gov.au)

User-defined levels - where the delay in seconds of each band is editable
