What's New: Sample Content

Contributed by:

Creating a Product Definition involves understanding how parameters, rules, and outputs work together. Sample Content gives you fully configured examples that you can download, explore, and modify directly in Inventor.

Each sample demonstrates how a complete Product Definition is structured, so you can inspect the configuration, experiment with the workflow, and apply what you learn when creating your own.

Why This Matters

Sample Content gives you a practical way to learn the Product Definition workflow before starting from scratch. Explore how a complete example is configured, make changes to understand how the pieces work together, and use those patterns as a reference for your own Product Definitions.

Learn by Example

One of the fastest ways to understand how product definitions work is to see a working example. Sample Content gives you exactly that: fully configured Inventor sample projects that include Product Definitions you can explore and modify.

What you get:

  • Inventor sample projects with fully configured Product Definitions created by the Informed Design team

  • Examples for different product types and Inventor versions

  • Editable files you can inspect and experiment with

  • Examples you can reference when creating your own Product Definitions

Questions?

Do I need the latest Informed Design add-in to use Sample Content?
Yes. Install the latest Informed Design add-in for Inventor to access Sample Content and ensure you have the latest experience.

Can I edit or modify a downloaded sample?
Yes. Downloaded samples are editable, so you can explore the included Product Definitions, change parameters, review rules and output settings, and experiment with the workflow.

Where are the downloaded files stored?
You choose the save location when you download a sample. The sample project is stored locally in the folder you select.

Can I download multiple samples?
Yes. You can download multiple samples and explore different product types, configurations, and Inventor versions.

Does each sample include more than one Product Definition?
This depends on the sample. Open the sample model and select Product Definition to see the Product Definitions available in that project.

What if the sample I want isn't available?
Sample Content will continue to expand over time. Check back for new examples, or share suggestions for additional sample content through the Informed Design Forum.

Will downloading a sample affect my existing product definitions?
No. Sample Content is downloaded as a separate local project and does not modify your existing Product Definitions or Inventor files.
