surface textures for 3D printing

surface textures for 3D printing

Being able to design and apply surface textures to models for 3D printing would be a nice feature.

Like being able to create dimpled or raised dot surfaces to increase grip or traction.

Being able to apply this to mesh sculpted surfaces and body is what I am looking for.

Generate simple to complex textures and apply them to entire bodies and also designate an area to apply the texture with in that boundary.

Not an easy task, but would be an awesome feature to simplify model construction and enhance the end product.

Thanks,

  Steve Mose

As I hear it you asking for a baked in displacement map, and yeah that would be a nice feature, but we probably first will get it when that comes a separate workspace for 3d printing / integrated 3d printing in fusion 360.
In the meantime try to check out there Mudbox et have a nice and easy way to convert triangle message to polygons, if your model is a solid model you will need that, and then is just painting 😉

Thanks for the great feedback. Have you tried using MeshMixer? We have a direct integration between Fusion 360 and Meshmixer, which will allow you to manipulate meshes generated from Fusion 360 as well as turn the volumes into patterns, etc. You can download MeshMixer here

Anything on a roadmap ?

I am looking for an update on the status of this texture request. I have a jewelry casting project. Because the scale is so small I create the model 1000 to 2000% larger. Then using a special resin that can be mixed to shrink by a predictable amount I make a mold for casting.

A texturing feature would be fantastic. Thanks.

This would be really great. I saw the transition guide from Solidworks to Fusion. But if I were a Solidworks user that uses the texturing facility in SW on a daily basis, I would not go to Fusion. Don't get me wrong, I really am enthusiastic about Fusion, but this capability I'm really missing....
