Select entire area enclosed by a profile

Select entire area enclosed by a profile

The way geometry is selected is really frustrating, especially when you need to select 15 ridiculously small areas to extrude that circle you've just sketched because of underlying geometry. Having the ability to override this by selecting a contour profile would save a lot of time and frustration.

I agree. I like that I can select portions of a profile which is helpful when you have a sketch that defines multiple features. However I have also found how annoying it can be to just want to select a single closed profile like you mentioned.

Some sort of hot-key or even a right click option would be good enough for me.

I like this idea as well, and a hot key or selection tool of some sort would be fine for me also.

Thanks

Having all the sketch lines which are automatically created when you start a sketch on a face default to construction lines rather than solid lines would also go a long way to improving this situation. That is what I usually find myself doing when I start a new sketch on a face, select all and make construction.

@AnonymousI was considering making an idea station request for something similar. A way to force sketch lines or projected sketches to construction while creating them, maybe with a hotkey, so you do not have to go through and select them after you have created them.

Thank you for your idea, this is being changed to future consideration.  We have improvements to how we project in the background for referencing and for selections in our backlog.

This is now possible with the new sketch selection filters! http://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/blog/january-19-2017-update-whats-new/

Thanks for the improvement. To me it is a common need to switch between the two selection styles. It would be nice to possible have a hotkey like "alt" select to allow for a alternative selection state. The reason is half the time I want to click on a larger profile and half the time I want to click on the partial profile.

Hi,

I see the new Sktech selection filters but how can I use this for the extrusion as the thread opener wants to?

If I have the extrusion tool opened I 'only' can select the profiles from my sketch.

But as I understand @Anonymous correctly he wanted to select an outline and extrude the profile which is included by the outline.

And this is currently not working - or do I miss something here?

I am having the same frustration of trying to select a bunch of sketch area portions to make the whole area I want to extrude.  I would think the "Selection Tool->Select By Boundary" would be the correct tool to make this happen.  But it just makes the whole sketch vanish.  If the new feature, pointed to above, is the solution, then it isn't very intuitive.

On the other hand, I do think the "Paint Selection" tool is not a bad way to select a bunch of tedious areas, and then inspect closely for anything you missed.  Even if you could select a bunch of boundary lines, the lines may not be segmented in the way you want for creating your boundary, and you are still doing a tedious process of selecting all the boundary lines.  I can understand the difficulty in making a better sketch area selection tool.
