Insert STEP (and others) inside Basefeature

Insert STEP (and others) inside Basefeature

please allow professional users to import and place CAD data like STEP etc inside a base feature via the insert menu

and not the dashboard.

We have now new design from file - great!

Being able to insert CAD data right into a Fusion design is still more than needed for a fluid and fast workflow

and not having to deal with upload and process time before a designer can continue.

If you look in the scripts supplied with Fusion there's a script open from web.

If you look in the script's folder there's a html file, if you copy that file somewhere you can call from Chrome it gives you the option to open or insert files from your hard drive or direct from a web url without downloading first. I'd attach the html file but for some reason attachments are not allowed on the ideastation.

Here's a screengrab from chrome of the html page. I tested and you can insert into a base feature or just insert.

Wow what a nice find! This works. So fact is with this HTML working there is no technical reason why this is not already build into Fusion!

Seriously Autodesk WTH here!?

@cekuhnen don't know why this is not built in!!

Here's a link to a tips thread with a cutdown version in the second post.

Thanks for this idea - love to see the level of engagement here. Since HughesTooling already have a script available, you can also now use the API to create your own custom palettes so that this is more integrated into the product.
