Extruding Offset from Surface

Extruding Offset from Surface

Watch this video https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=MAqAhAcp1gs

 The Solidworks work flow that is much easier than Fusion. Need an extrude offset from surface function.  While at Fusion Summit, I heard the same request to be able to adjust sketes after they have been created.  Also be able to adjust the depth.  This is very common move to extrud offset from surface.

 Hey Pat, the link you provided is invalid. Are you referring to extrude from a face of a solid body or extrude from a T-Spline body?

  Having used Solidworks extensively at my last place of employment (for over 6 year) this was a feature I used often; I would really like to see this added to Fusion 360 as well as it is vary useful. I believe this is the link Pat meant to link to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAqAhAcp1gs

I too use this a bunch in Solidworks and have missed it sorely in 360. Please give us an offset from surface option during extrude!

Thanks

This would be really helpful!

When extruding to a surface, it puts (To) in the distance field. Perhaps you could allow adding or subracting a value/parameter to that. Right now this gives an invalid calculation:

Again, this would be a very useful addition, especially for making thin walled components in ways that Shell just cant do as easily.

As a recent convert not having a thin extrude option is painful.

@anewenergy,

Thank you for your idea.  I am changing this to future consideration assuming your request is to have an extrude to as @AronGari shows in his video.  We have added this additional functionality to our backlog.  As for @RChritz comment about thin extrusion.  You can extrude a surface by changing to the patch environment and then use the extrude feature.

Cheers,

I really miss this feature too. I used this in Solidworks a lot.

Note it's also important to be able to begin a cut or extrude at an offset from a surface as well as being able to cut up to an offset from a surface.

Plus one to this. I also tried to do the same thing that "Ndenekamp" did by adding a "-5mm" after selecting to a surface. Just so you know that at least two users looking for this feature attempted to perform this operation in the same way.

Thanks for the great work!

 I really need this feature as well.

we need to  start the extruded cut or combine by offseting from the sketch surface, and contrroll the termination of the extrude cut/combine by offsetting from a surface.

coming from solidwork, I miss this functionality.

Extrude offset to surface is definitely a feature that is needed, especially for complex surface geometry.

 yes, we definitely need some more robust offset uptions for the extrude command.   In solidworks, you have the option of starting the extrude offset from the sketch plane, and ending the extrude at an offset from a different plane.   This is a huge time saver, and eliminates the need for construction planes most of the time.

any update as to how soon this can be implemented?

Thanks, and keep up the good work!

 Thanks for adding this in the new update! I just did touchdown arms at my desk and my coworkers are looking at me strangely.

 @tomamafone,

Happy to hear that your excitement reached touchdown arms level!  The team did a great job at the overall improvements to extrude and it's great to hear that the community is already putting them to good use.

Have a good day,

Where was this implemented. I have looked and looked and I cannot find it or figure out how.

It does not seem like it was implemented. 😞

Where?

Thanks
