PDF Publishing

PDF Publishing

Hello,

i think Autodesk should integrate automatic PDF-Publishing into Vault (2D-PDF) like the DWF-Publishing.

The DWF is more powerful and Autodesk want to spread it with force, but there are some reasons for the PDF format:

- PDF is an ISO-Standard, DWF not.

- You can open DWF only on Windows, there is no DesignReview form MAC or Linux.

- The DWF-Viewer works only on prozessores with SSE2, PDF-Viewer are running everywhere.

- Everybody has installed an PDF-Viewer, DesignReview normaly nobody without Autodesk Products.

Best regards

Michael

I agree.  Our customers and suppliers prefer PDF.  One is asking for 3D PDF for all solid models.  If Autodesk would convert their DWF viewer / markup tool to a PDF viewer / Markup tool they may be able to sell it as a separate product.

It's pretty disappointing that this is still an issue, I've been reading up on this, and people have been requesting PDF publishing for almost TEN YEARS. I understand that Autodesk wants to push .DWF and .DWFX file formats, but it's ridiculous that customers have been asking for a fairly simple feature and they have to turn to third party extensions and add-ons to get broken functionality of what they're looking for.  All Autodesk is serving to do by NOT fulfilling this

is to waste the time of autodesk users, and their customers.  Couple this with issues that .dwf files are creating for my documentation department and you've got a pretty frustrated engineer.

We also would love to use PDF's instead of the DWF's. Our customers and vendors have been fighting us when we tell them they have to download Design Review in order to view our drawings. They are not happy and honestly, I can't blame them. The PDF has been an established file for a long time now. The DWF is simply too late in the game and Autodesk should not force their customers to conform to their ideas. Give us the OPTION is all we ask. How this has been Under Review or even missing in Vault for this long is beyond me. This idea was suggest TWO YEARS ago!! I know Autodesk wants their DWF to succeed, and it can internally as mark-up is great, but externally is where we hit the wall.

This is the problem with billion dollar companies. They have the resources to force unneeded proprietary formats on their users.

I have been waiting for PDF publishing since the first Vault release but I don't think I'll ever see it happen. I think the only way to get it is to switch to a competitor.

I hope PDF will be embedded into Vault publishing option in the next release. We have been printing to PDF for all of the drawings for the last 8 years. All our customers/venders/dealers use PDF. Please do this, Autodesk!

Here, using Vault 2015, we want to use PDF as well rather then DWG. PDF is also more versatile to index and way more open then DWF or DWFx.

Please implement this!

Greetings!

We are collecting inputs from Vault customers and users on the following product requirement. Please provide your inputs and votes. This will help us decide whether to include this a new product feature in future release.

"Provide an capability in Vault that automatically publishes the PDF, DXF and other prescribed formats once the DWF is checked in. This will enable the customer to create a PDF file of every IDW, and create a DXF file of every sheet metal as they are sending to the laser."

Currently, some customers are running jobs for this. But they get problem, when there are 100s of files and the files are still not available the next day. The new feature, if implemented will address this problem.

We don't use DWF, creating them at check-in is too slow.

Please add this capability to work from Inventor idws, ipts, and iams.  I see the need to create PDFs and dxf/dwgs of IV idws and create any 3d export file type (stp, igs, stl, etc) from ipts and iams.

Users should be able to specify default filenames that can pull information from IV iproperties as well as Vault properties.  For example the output file might be named PART_NUMBERrREVISION_NUMBER.FILETYPE or 12345rA.stp.

Please make the Job Processor not consume an IV Licence.

Agreed !! Very much needed with the Vault Professional.

PDF Publish is available with VAO tools, however, it is VERY LIMITED. The least they can do is fix the VAO Publish tool to enable both paperspace and model space or allow user input.

much much needed...!

I agree. Right now we are publishing DWF's (using Vault) and DXF's (using iLogic) to a secondary server. I will have to find an iLogic rule for pdf's as well if I don't see any progress from Autodesk soon. Unfortunately, both the dxf's and pdf's still have to be manually checked into Vault.

What is causing the delay in implementing this feature?

While, PDF is a good option, our company uses TIF. So it would be fanatastic to have the option of selecting the output format.

Hello,

thanks for changing the state.

This was a long way. More than 3 years the most rated idea.

Are there any plans for the implementation? Release 2017?

Best regards

We need the possibility to replace the DWF files with PDF files in the thin client environment for the visualization files.

The ThinClient should only display this PDF files and it should also be configurable what to display if no pdf visualisation is available. Maybe with a API event to request a pdf with the jobserver or some custom application.

Many big companies know about pdf, but outside the construction office the don't know dwf and cause of the policies they dont be able to install a new viewer or a plugin for some web browsers.

In future I see that there will be more customers who wants to have PDF documents - and supporting 3D-PDF is another possible reason for that.
