A nice feature to add would be to be able to sort your model tree alphabetically when your model tree contains folders.
I have tried and always get a failed error message.
Just a wish to add to the list.
It would be nice if the cropped view put break lines in at the edges of the cropped part/view. As it is now, Inventor just puts straight lines at the edges of the crop that could be mistaken as the edge of the part. I have to sketch break lines in everytime.
I would like to be able to have more control over how the dimensions are displayed in the part sketch. When we place dimensions they go to there own "automatic" placement. Even if we arrange them, they will move back to where they want to go. Very frustrating and it makes for a cluttered sketch environment.
Another thing that I would like is to be able to drag the end point of the dimensions so it can be redefined. The way it is now, we have to delete the dimension and the reassing it to where we want. For instance like the vertical 1.500 dim shown on the far left in the attached pic. Say that I wanted the 1.500 to go from the lower line its attached up to the hole center closer to the top. We have no way to drag the dim line.
Both of these features are available in other SW and it is really nice to have.
It would be nice if there was a way to create an angled cut normal to the surfaces on a contour flange. Currently when you attempt to create an angled cut the resulting flat pattern consists of multiple angled cuts that a punch tool simply couldn't create. I understand that the cut feature has an option to cut across a bend, however this is not helpful when the contour has multiple bends.
Solidworks however has a command in its sheetmetal cut that allows the user to create a normal cut. This will give the user the desired continuous angle while being able to flatten and manufacture.
When adding members to a frame, instead of having to select the family and size and such have a selector to pick an existing member in the frame and make consume that selection to the Standard, Family, Size and Material Style. Could save a lot of time having to get frame member info BEFORE adding members to the frame.
Orphaned dimensions and broken constraints give you a dialog box that you have to accept or you can not do anything else (modal). It would be nice if the error box stayed open (or you could tell it not to prompt again this session) but allowed you to keep working and fix the problems (non-modal). The list of errors would update as you fixed them.
When using the built in Print to PDF function in Inventor, or any other print function, the default option should be print all pages, not just current page. Many times we work with multi sheet documents, and printing only current page as a default results in lots of messed up printouts. Since the settings are not visible without pressing the options button (compare to MS Word 2010) we don't think about the trouble we are getting into until its too late.
When the Content Center is used to generate a structural member, the most common reference point I use isn't the ends, but the center. While I could use the frame generator, I find the workflow for the general assembly environment to be easier to work with as I'm frequently working with outside dimensions instead of inside dimensions.
Alternatively, make the origin the center for all three dimensions instead of just two, and make the start/end planes be symmetric around the origin.
While a midplane can be manually added, it's something of a workflow disrupter when I have to go in and open the individual file so that I can 1)add a midplane 2) rename the new midplane to Mid plane 3) set visibility to off. It's not a huge deal, but it's annoyingly tedious. All that needs to happen is a few quick changes to the Content Center source files and we'll have this done.
I would like to be able and drag/import a Mechanical Desktop part or assembly into Inventor the same way .step / .iges / .SLDPRT and .SLDASM files are treated.
To be more specific - no feature recognition, no need for Mechanical Desktop 2009 installed on your computer. Just a simple and quick drag and drop as a dummy solid.
Dinosaur Desktop might be extinct, but that doesn't mean we have to let all of our old jobs and designs die..
Angle of a pipe end can be to sharp for a (pipe)lasercutting machine. The machine will be out of range by angle and/or material thickness.
It would be nice if framegenerator will be expand with a tool it makes it possible to simply calculate the shorten/lengthen dimensions by given an minimum and/or maximum angle "straight" to pipe wall so the pipe can be cut by a lasercut machine and will fit.
Also a possibility to give up welding preparations would be great.
I'd like the ability to create symmetrical constraints, so I'm not required to work around this via other methods.
It would allow me to work faster and with more assurance. Also, I'd like the option to select symmetry based on various points, lines, planes. Etc.
i want to be able to associate leader text with a particular page number.
For instance, I want to write, "see page 6"
But if I add a page before 6 then I have to remember to update the note.
I want to be able to live link this in the leader
