Revit to DWG Export - Layer Modifiers Color Settings not applied to Some element

While exporting DWG from Revit, we can change Export Setup and use Layer Modifiers to include additional text in the layer names of subcategory or based on LAYER MODIFIERS by the following properties

  • Function
  • Level
  • Material for Modeling
  • Phase Created
  • Phase Demolished
  • Phase Status
  • Structural Usage
  • System Classification
  • System Name
  • System Type
  • Underlay
  • View Type
  • Workset

But some of the MODIFIERS are not properly working.

E.g.: System Type property for Ducting and Piping elements.

System Type Layer Modifiers.pngLayer Modifier.png

Case 1: MEP Element: Coarse Level

  1. Some ducts and pipes with respective fittings are created.
  2. Display Detail Level is set to Coarse
  3. DWG is exported with Layer Modifiers for Category followed by System Type
  4. Color ID and Layer Name is well applied for all the elements

Case 2: MEP Element: Fine Level

  1. Same elements are kept unchanged
  2. Display Detail Level is set to Fine
  3. DWG is exported with same Layer Modifiers for Category followed by System Type
  4. Layer names are applied but colors are not as per Layer Modifiers for Duct Fitting and Pipe Fitting or any other elements which are exported as a Block Reference in the DWG (Air Terminal, Pipe Accessory etc.,)

Case 3: Architectural Element

  1. A door element is placed
  2. Inside that, there are Architrave in the Elevation Views and nested families for Ironmongery geometry
  3. Layer Modifiers are set for Ironmongery with Different Layer Name and Color ID
  4. Even though the Iron monger is inside a Block Reference (Door Element), the layers' name and color are as per the Layer Modifiers settings.

Now, from this experiment, we can conclude, for some elements the System Type and System Classifications properties are not properly reflecting in the LAYER MODIFIER settings.

It would be really great if this works as it is supposed to work.

Thanks!

I'm having the same issue.  We typically export in fine mode so we can see widths, especially on ductwork.  Otherwise we spend a lot of time picking through all the fittings to move them to the correct layer before we can send out to others.  I'm currently trying to get it set up to work in 2016.

It's 2020 and this is still not fixed in Revit 2020 nor Revit 2021, unless someone has found a workaround?

I came across the "Enhanced" DWG Exporter: https://www.biminteroperabilitytools.com/dwgexporter.php#:~:text=Autodesk%20Enhanced%20DWG%20Exporte...

But to be honest, the interface is very confusing and it does not seem to fix the problem where fittings ignore the layer modifiers....
