If you go in to a 3D view, enable section box then reduce the box to cut through a cavity wall you can see it actually already does this when viewing the wall in section. 

 

The problem is when you are viewing an end or top of a wall, it automatically 'wraps' this surface with one material. When you have a layer set to 'wrap' this makes sense... for the sides of walls.

 

It would be much more sensible if the top of walls automatically displayed the wall layers as it does when sectioned. It would also be much more sensible if walls which have no wrapping layers displayed all the layers on the sides of walls.
