Pre-Select Tag Type When Using Tag By Category

This has been raised before but didn't get any traction:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/category-tags-should-work-like-multi-category-tags-with-a...

So I'm reposting again.

When using 'Tag By Category' there is no option to select the desired Family/Type prior to tagging. Instead the user is locked into always placing the default tag and then manually swapping it after. This is different to the behaviour of every other tag placement (and every other component placement) and is seriously annoying.

We often have more than one tag family/type for any given category and not being able to select the desired tag prior to placement can be confusing.

I get why the behaviour occurs (because the tag could be placed onto any category so it doesn't know what it is before placement), but I'd still prefer having the drop down and then being locked to placing the tag on those specific category elements, rather than the current setup.

@ViviNyehuusAndersen that's fine if users want to tag every element of a specific category with the same tag, but that's not what I'm after. We might have 20 Specialty Equipment elements in a view and want to tag 10 of them with 'Tag: Type A' and 10 of them with 'Tag: Type B'.

Users are often confused because they only ever see the default option and it's not clear that they can change it after placement. This leads to them cancelling out of the operation and wasting time trying to work out what they're doing wrong.

Would much prefer if Tag By Category behaved like any other placement workflow (i.e. allow preselection of the Family and Type)

yes i see your point. It would be worth to :

- either have preset option by some key button (shortcut) predefined with preferred variants of tags (each for some group of tag differently,  eg.  for Air terminaltags use the same shortcut as for the Pipe tags but for selecting different types of tags)

- more usefull may be to define particular group of category families (e.g. 12 types of air terminals for Tag A , and 5 types of air terminals for Tag B, and the rest for Tag C )  definable in some kind of table.

- or also nice chance would be to use arrows (up, down,  or right/left) to swap between preferred tags before you click on some element.

i agree.

I also would be happy to fast-change the dimension of pipe by keyboart instead of clicing by up banner, this is a similar UI issue decreasing the workflow efficiency.  Autodesk, keep our efficiency high by efficient functions!
