Window cuts Host Wall, but Design Option reports an unrelated Host

When adding a Window to a Design Option error reads "An insert in a Design Option cannot be hosted by an element in the Main Model."  I don't mind that Windows and their host Wall need to include each other in a Design Option, but I do mind when this error reports that the host for the Window is not the wall it is cutting, but rather some unrelated wall on the other side of the project.  I see a lot of value in the Design Option tool, but a lot of users avoid it because of unreliable and inconsistent management of elements in the tool itself.  I can cut and “paste in same place” to unconstrain the Window from the random Wall, but I lose tags, dimensions, phasing, and element overrides.  Is there any workaround for this that does not have to wait for further development of the Design Option feature? Thanks!

To clarify, it looks like when walls across a project are close enough to be "intersecting" and have “join geometry" applied to each other in an apparent chain of connections, adding one wall to a Design Option will require you to include all the Walls in the chain (and their hosted elements) to the same Design Option.  Odd though, that when two walls are “joined” but cleanup at their intersection without a “join geometry”, they are not required to be in the same Design Option.
