Custom Text in Spot Elevations

Spot elevations need an instance custom text field so we are able to add descriptive indicators like T.O. WALL or B.O. JOIST when tagging elements within the project. Personally, I don't care if it is above or below the line, as long as we can get it somewhere on the tag.

Simple, easy and absolutely ridiculous this isn't already a built in function.

Make text easily editable for spot elevations

It would be very helpful to add custom text below the leader line on spot elevations.  Typically we need to define what a spot elevation is referring to (top of wall, typical height, top of steel, match existing, etc.)  While a suffix can be added, it isn't very distinct from the elevation, and it makes the spot elevation tag undesirably longer.  Adding a setting to allow an instance based (or even type based) text field below the spot elevation would be very helpful.

These don't work?

Sorry, I should have clarified (and yes those work). Most people prefer to be able to put the descriptor on a separate line than the elevation to shorten up the length of the tag.

The ideal situation would be if we could infill the lower or upper value with text independent of where the elevation height shows up. In your example, if the lower value was not greyed out and I could input T.O. WALL there, that would be great.

Totally agree that it's simple, easy, and ridiculous to not be included, especially when it's a drafting standard and users have been asking for it for over a decade.

@Darin_HDR, It might help if you edited the original post to add your clarifications from your comment.  I'm also going to post a link to this in a thread about this very topic.

It should also allow you to have the elevation value on the bottom of the line and the text on top of the line.

Agreed! this should have been fixed years ago!

@ks2_wmb , Thank you!

+1 on the concept of being able to have custom instance-parameter text on one line (above the leader seems like industry standard), and the actual elevation info below the leader (per Darin's screenshot above).

It's should be a basic parameter or activated option in elevation or section views. I am surprised why does Autodesk shouldn't activated spot elevation tag in such views.

I made this using tag families, just add a shared parameter then you're good to go.

@christian_balisoroQLM7J - This sounds promising, but sadly I'm not sure I follow 100%.  Any chance you could explain the process in more detail, and/ or share your family(s)?

Thanks!

@rhBDHX4 - Since I need to use this type of spot elevation for my ceiling. I created a custom ceiling tag with ceiling height parameters then a custom shared parameter to add my text.  So, if you need something like this for your walls or other elements, you have to create a separate tag for them.

Hello

I need to make spot elevation that has prefix and suffix at once in type, not in element parameter

Now i have only prefix and people in my office need to put suffix in element properties
