I'm curious where you see the limitations. Can't you create instance parameters, load into host family, and use 'associate parameter' button to then associate at the hosted family level? Or are you saying that the feature should not require someone to re-create the parameter at each tier of family nesting? Basically saying the ideal solution is to reach all the way into nested families and update their instance values without needing to select 'Edit Family' twice... am I seeing the request right?

Yes. You would essentially TAB in to select the shared subfamily. You would still be able to link it to the parent family and have it be controlled by the parent family, but this would allow for a larger diversity of expression within that element instance.
Thanks for taking the time to submit your idea. Unfortunately, this idea did not get the support of the community over the last 6 months and as such we will not be pursuing it at this time.
