New Auto Lining/finish Tool

Hi Everyone,

Wall linings often do different things than the underlying wall. For example they:

-change thickness on different substrates

-change from room to room even though they might be on a wall object which extends thought both rooms

-extend over existing and proposed walls to create a seamless finished surface

-Have local patches of different finish

All of the above are a little tricky to deal with using separate compound walls or roof objects with different layers. I appreciate there are totally fine ways of tackling some of the above items ie creating an additional wall and joining it to the wall representing the substrate OR using parts OR using split face and paint. I have no objection to these methods and use them all frequently. I just wish it could be a little better.

So, I'm imagining a new tool. You click in a room and it skins all of the internal surfaces with one click - walls, flat ceilings, sloped ceiling, multi faceted ceilings - the lot. It automatically joins to the various substrates and will move around with each. Each surface could be assigned a different linings type and subdivided to create tiled areas. Each lining type could be tagged. In plan or section view the lining would have shape handles to thicken or thin the lining where required.

This is kind of all there in revit already. So this is more of a suggestion to streamline the process. So in summary: A new automatic skin/lining tool would be amazing.
