Revit Material Apperance Asset Replace With Material
There is a major issue in the way Revit allows users to manage their materials and appearance assets. If a user drags a material out of a material library and a version of that material exists in the project already they are prompted to either; Overwrite, Keep Both or Cancel. However, this only applies to the information in the material itself and does not extend to the appearance asset. If overwrite is selected it changes the top-level material info but a (1) version of the appearance asset is created and an unassigned older version of that asset with the correct name remains and can only be removed via a purge. A user can overwrite the asset directly in the asset window pulling from a library and dropping into the project but then none of the material information is changed. Rendering and VR become more and more a part of the design process every year and there is a huge need to be able to manage materials and their assets easily while pulling form firm and project libraries. What is needed is either a two-step dialogue box when adding a material to a project first asking if the user would like to overwrite the old material of the same name with the new and then if their assets also share the same name if the user would like to also overwrite or keep both the asset.
This would be a huge time saver.
Thanks,
